This is a yearly contest-type event hosted by SVP for  street vendors specializing in food. Appeals are made via the Internet for citizens to participate in the election of  popular street vendors. The five most popular, or possibly more, are invited to participate as finalists in the event, which culminates with the  announcement of the No. 1 vendor. This year (2009) marks  the fifth time for the event to be held.On the day of the event, five vendors specializing in food and four in desserts will gather and, according to the votes garnered from visiting guests and the ratings from the panel of judges (consisting of food critics, chefs, food fighters and so on), the No. 1 street vendor will be decided.
Through this event, we aim to raise media and public attention with regards to street vendors, and increase vendors' motivation and public standing. By allocating the proceeds, however small, from this event to SVP activity funds, those funds effectively will be re-distributed to the street vendors, creating what could be called a cyclical business model.

The Street Vendor Project (SVP) is an NPO providing legal support and improving the position of street vendors, which it can be said have become an integral part of the New York scenery. More than 10 thousands vendors in New York are affiliated at present. They work for a long time at harsh conditions, and strive for commodity sales in the discreet place every day. However, the majority cannot do it. And has the problem of legal knowledge and the word. SVP could be called a refuge for these people, protecting their rights and striving toward the improvement of their position. Through workshops and so on, it provides backing for the development of such street vendors.
